A memo from the ISD 622 Teacher Relicensure
From: 622 Teacher Relicensure Committee
As you may have heard, Minnesota has changed its teacher licensing laws effective January 1, 2018. A new state agency, the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB), has been created to oversee and implement teacher licensing laws for the state of Minnesota. MDE and the Board of Teaching will no longer be involved with teacher licensing.
Minnesota's Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) will soon be implementing a new tiered licensing system and also a new online renewal system. As part of this transition PELSB has extended the teaching licenses of all current 5 year license holders by one year. That means if your teaching license was due to expire in 2018, it will now expire in 2019. PELSB will not be renewing any current teaching licenses in 2018. You must now wait until January 1, 2019 to renew your teaching license. Those who currently hold a standard 5 year teaching license will automatically have their licenses converted to a Tier 4 license sometime later this year. Tier 4 is the highest tier teaching license.
If you'd like to confirm that your license due date has been extended, you may click on the license look-up link below.
After entering your name or license number, click the 'details' button to see the new 2019 expiration date. If you click the 'license' button you will see a pdf copy of your license with the 2018 due date. PELSB will not update the new extended expiration date on online pdf versions.
If you have further questions about license renewal you may contact PELSB at 651-539-4200, or contact a 622 Relicensure committee member.
